Virgil van Dijk escalated his feud with Wayne Rooney to bold new heights by confronting the Manchester United legend on live TV. The Liverpool captain, who at the weekend dismissed Rooney's "lazy" criticism of the Reds, joined the former striker on Amazon Prime's post-match broadcast following Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Last week, Rooney suggested the Reds' poor recent form stemmed from a lack of leadership, appearing to place much of the blame on Van Dijk's shoulders. In response, the Dutch defender dismissed the comments as "ridiculous."

On Tuesday, he reiterated his stance, confronting Rooney directly in an awkward yet respectful on-air exchange at pitch-side. According to body language expert, Judi James, Rooney appeared "nervous" and even winced when Van Dijk called him out indirectly.
