Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is dealing with a hip injury for England star Anthony Gordon - with the forward taken off at half-time at West Ham.

The Liverpool-born ace has been a mainstay in Howe's team this term, and eyebrows were raised when his number came up during the interval at the London Stadium. But Howe explained: "Anthony was feeling his hip slightly. There were some tactical changes there as well to try and get a different feeling on the pitch."

Whether Gordon - who has England duty on the horizon with the Three Lions facing Serbia and Albania in dead rubber World Cup qualifiers next week - shrugs off the hip trouble in time for the Athletic Bilbao game remains to be seen. But Howe has other issues on his agenda.
