SAINTS and Leicester City are reportedly both tracking Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson ahead of a potential loan in January.

The 25 year old played a key part in Sunderland’s climb from League One to the Premier League with successive promotions at the Black Cats.

However, Patterson has lost his starting spot this season following the summer arrival of Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs from NEC Nijmegen.

After three years as Sunderland’s undisputed number one, he has featured just once in 2025/26 and is keen to find regular football elsewhere.

Reports from Alan Nixon suggest Sunderland would let the academy graduate leave on loan, with Leicester currently leading the chase.

Saints are said to hold a long-term interest in Patterson, though any move to St Mary’s depends on their goalkeeping situation closer to the window.

The Sunderland Echo has added that they understand the Black Cats will only approve a move if they can bring in a suitable replacement.
