Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is the early favourite to take over at Wolves after the Premier League’s bottom club parted company with Vitor Pereira.

Rodgers is out of work following his exit at Celtic at the start of this week but could be back in a job sooner rather than later.

The Wolves hotseat is now empty following Pereira’s dismissal. A 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Saturday means they’ve taken just two points from their opening 10 Premier League games and are already eight points from safety.

Pereira had done a terrific job after taking over Wolves last season, with City unable to keep pace in the battle to avoid relegation, but he's not been able to keep up that form.

In a statement, Wolves said: “Results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary.

“Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will take training while the club finalise the appointment of a new first-team head coach.”
