Derby County Women secured an emphatic 6-0 victory over Coventry Sphinx Ladies in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup First Round.


Sam Griffiths' side raced into a three-goal lead, with Mikayla Wildgoose, Minnie Wilson and Ella Bryan on the scoresheet, before goalkeeper Harriet Wayne was sent off in the 21st minute.

Being a player down did not harm the Ewes, as a Chené Muir brace came either side of a Mia Wheeler strike in the second half, sending Derby through to the Second Round as 6-0 winners.

Key Moments

Derby started on the front foot, Marnie Drake firing straight at goalkeeper Parri Uppal inside two minutes.

The Ewes had the next chance of the game, too. Bryan slipped the ball through to Ché Thomas, who was forced wide and then denied by Uppal in the net.

The early pressure came to a head after ten minutes, when Wildgoose headed in Wilson’s third corner at the back post.

Derby won a penalty in the 13th minute after Minnie Wilson was fouled on the right-hand side of the box. She then stepped up to take the spot kick, firing into the right-hand side of the goal.
