Liverpool have been sent a fresh penalty verdict after Brentford were awarded a spot kick that proved decisive.

Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick felt there needed to be more contact inside the penalty area for referee Tim Robinson to award Brentford a spot kick against Brentford.

Dango Outtara had given the hosts the lead inside just five minutes before Cody Gakpo saw penalty appeals waved away at the Gtech Community Stadium, just a minute before Kevin Schade put Keith Andrews' side two goals to the good.

Milos Kerkez pulled one back before the interval to set up a dramatic second-half, with match referee Simon Hooper replaced by Robinson during the break after sustaining an injury in the first-half. The replacement official initially awarded Brentford a free-kick on the edge of the area following a challenge from Virgil van Dijk on Dango Outtara.
