Florian Wirtz has shared his relief at ending his drought for a goal contribution for Liverpool. The playmaker registered two assists as the Reds thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old set up a goal on his debut for the club in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace, but had failed to add to that solitary goal contribution in either the Premier League or Champions league prior to Liverpool’s trip to Germany.

But the midfielder ended his wait in impressive fashion back in his homeland, first crossing low for Cody Gakpo in the second half before teeing up Dominik Szoboszlai from the edge of the box.

The £116m summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen was delighted to belatedly get back among the goal contributions. But taking responsibility for Frankfurt’s opener, he also insisted he can still offer plenty more for Liverpool.
