It's one of the best family adventures of the year, and as these sparkling pictures show, it's little wonder.

For two nights this year, the most iconic buildings in the city will be lit up with illuminated artworks. The event celebrates history, modern architecture and public spaces, and brings thousands of visitors into the city every year.

Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, said: “As always, we are very excited to be hosting Light Night Leeds again this year, an event that brings thousands of people together to experience and celebrate artistic ingenuity and our city.”

Over Wednesday and Thursday nights this week, the event offers people the chance to wander through the city centre and gaze at all the amazing light shows and artwork. It is a wonderful family celebration of art, culture, and all things Leeds. This year, the festivities take place between 6pm and 10pm.

Here are some pictures from the first night of the wonderful light and art show.
