It seemed wholly appropriate for a Liverpool team struggling for lift-off this season. The Reds saw their departure for tonight's crucial Champions League clash at Eintracht Frankfurt delayed by four hours due to technical difficulties with their flight to Germany on Tuesday.

While ultimately only an inconvenience, it was nevertheless a further obstacle in a testing week for Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who was given an unwelcome reminder of recent Anfield past the previous day.

The timing may have been coincidental. But it was inopportune for the Dutchman that barely 12 hours after Manchester United consigned the Reds to a fourth successive loss for the first time in almost 11 years, an interview was released in which Jurgen Klopp refused to completely rule out a return to the Reds hotseat.
