Senne Lammens' self-assurance, technical prowess and dedication is said to have been what led to Manchester United signing him over Aston Villa and Argentina's World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez.

The Belgian shot-stopper was secured by the Red Devils in an £18.2million last-minute transfer from Royal Antwerp. Despite Ruben Amorim's earlier insistence on sticking with Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, it seems his mind was swayed as the transfer window was about to close. Bayindir had been Amorim's first choice following Onana's injury but made several costly mistakes at the start of the Premier League season.

Onana returned to action for United's Carabao Cup match against Grimsby Town, letting in two sloppy goals as the Red Devils were eliminated from the competition on penalties by the League Two team. While United were strongly linked with a move for the unsettled Martinez as the transfer window drew to a close, the board ultimately opted for the much younger Lammens.
