Ally McCoist has had his say after Steven Gerrard turned down the chance to take charge of Rangers for a second spell. The Liverpool legend appeared to be the frontrunner to replace Russell Martin, but ultimately chose against a return to Scotland.

Back in 2021, the 45-year-old led Rangers to their first Scottish Premier League title win in 10 years before making the decision to become Aston Villa head coach.

A spell in Saudi Arabia followed his sacking from the Premier League, but he has been out of the management game since his Al-Ettifaq exit earlier this year.
