Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton target Wallace Yan has found himself at the centre of a new controversy in Brazil, after being fined by Flamengo for his sending-off against Bahia at the weekend.

As reported by ESPN Brazil, the 20-year-old forward will be officially punished and fined by the club once the squad return from their short break. He came on in the 68th minute of the 1-0 defeat but lasted just eleven minutes before being sent off.

That was for elbowing right-back Gilberto. 

Flamengo were already down to ten men at the time after Danilo’s earlier dismissal. Wallace Yan’s red card left the team with nine players.

The incident sparked widespread criticism from the Brazilian press. Journalist Renan Moura, from Globo Radio, said the youngster “needs to reset”. He also called for Flamengo’s sporting director José Boto and coach Filipe Luís to intervene. “Being provocative and decisive is very different from what he’s been showing,” Moura added.
