The saga which ended with Viktor Gyökeres moving to Arsenal in the summer was so dramatic and long that it placed added pressure on the player. Perhaps there was some later luck that the dramatics around his Sweden teammate Alexander Isak and a move to Liverpool overshadowed it.

Still, Gyökeres refusing to train with Sporting CP meant that he didn’t have a full preseason and that was always going to be a hindrance to some extent. Add to that getting used to the Premier League under a big media spotlight and the striker’s task was never simple.

The 27-year-old has played 10 matches for Arsenal so far and scored three goals. One of those goals was a penalty and the last time Gyökeres found the back of the net was September 13th.

That’s far from being a disaster, but there’s been some doubts about the striker’s all round game. Some fans and pundits have been critical, although it’s generally been quiet mild.

Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson isn’t impressed though. Speaking at a press conference on Monday he defended the Arsenal player.
