Steven Gerrard expects Mohamed Salah to be ‘hurt’ after being dropped for Liverpool’s quarter-final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Salah struggled against Manchester City on Saturday, ultimately missing a penalty and looking a shadow of the player who has given Pep Guardiola’s team nightmares over the years.

There was a question mark over whether Arne Slot would include the Egyptian for Wednesday’s enormous game, and after the Liverpool boss left Salah on the bench, Steven Gerrard explained how the legendary winger is likely to react.

Having been poor for a while now, Salah could have few complaints about missing out on Wednesday’s match.

Nevertheless, it was still a surprise to see the 33-year-old on the bench – and ultimately not come on at all – and according to Gerrard, nobody will have been as disappointed as Salah himself.
