Aston Villa return to action on Thursday night after the March international break and FA Cup quarter-finals.

Unai Emery's side head to Italy for the first leg of their Europa League tie against Bologna, with the objective of taking a result back to Birmingham for next week's return leg.

Villa's last game, against West Ham, will be 18 days prior to kick-off against Bologna, though the Serie A side played at the weekend, defeating Cremonese 2-1 away from home.

Emery took the players who didn't represent their nations on international duty to Spain for a training camp, while they also played Elche in a friendly.

Jadon Sancho, however, suffered a shoulder injury and is expected to be sidelined for around two to three weeks.

It means Emery will have to make at least two changes from the starting XI that progressed past West Ham, as Ross Barkley was not picked for the European squad.

Emi Martinez is expected to start in goal, possibly behind a defence made up of Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof, Tyrone Mings and Lucas Digne.
