Kevin Nolan has revealed that Andy Carroll was reluctant to complete his £35million move to Liverpool.

The 37-year-old - who currently turns out for National League South outfit Dagenham and Redbridge - progressed through the youth system at Newcastle United and established himself in the Premier League during the opening half of the 2010/11 campaign.

Having netted 11 times in 19 appearances, the former England forward attracted interest from the Reds, who negotiated a then-club record sum of £35m to bring him to Merseyside.

Before heading to Anfield for his medical examination, Carroll paid a visit to his then-Magpies colleague Nolan, with the former Newcastle skipper insisting Carroll had no desire to depart St James' Park.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, the ex-West Ham captain revealed Carroll aspired to achieve legendary status at his boyhood club and don the iconic No.9 shirt, following in the footsteps of Alan Shearer.
