Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate is more likely to put pen to paper on a new contract at Anfield than leave this summer.

The Frenchman has entered the final three months of his deal at Anfield, with supporters sweating over a renewal.

With such little time left on his contract, logic would suggest that Konate is probably departing Liverpool on a free transfer. But according to French paper L’Equipe, that is not the case.

Just as it did last year with Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, news of Konate’s will-he-won’t-he contract has dominated news this season.

Initially, the 26-year-old had been expected to leave, but the tide appeared to turn during the March international break, with L’Equipe now claiming that he has ‘never been closer’ to an agreement with Liverpool.

Indeed, the ‘most likely scenario’ is reportedly one in which Konate signs a contract to stay at Anfield.
