The back-to-back games, a long distance from home, were very taxing in terms of the travel and time away, but the club planned meticulously to equip the players with the maximum opportunity to perform. Adaptations to the normal week continued to be applied to the normal training week even after the games, as the players didn’t return from Devon until four or five in the morning. They were given the following day off, with training put back to the afternoon of the following day to assist with the recovery schedule.
