Plymouth continued their play-off charge in Sky Bet League One with a convincing 3-0 victory at struggling Wigan, who are now in the relegation zone on goals scored.

After on-loan Huddersfield striker Joe Taylor fired over for Wigan, Plymouth took control of the game with two goals in the space of two minutes just before half-time.

After 38 minutes, the home defence failed to deal with a free-kick, allowing Bim Pepple to force the ball over the line.

Then, five minutes before the break, Malachi Boateng teed up Pepple, who made no mistake from 15 yards.

Wigan's attempts at a response in the second half were thwarted by the hand of a visiting defender, which clearly diverted a goalbound effort from Taylor into the hands of Luca Ashby-Hammond.

The referee, however, allowed play to continue, and Plymouth added salt to the wounds within seconds with a match-clinching third goal.

Boateng again provided the assist, and this time Caleb Watts supplied the finish with 19 minutes remaining.

Wigan's night was summed up in the closing stages when substitute Caylan Vickers fed Taylor, whose stinging strike beat the goalkeeper, but came back off the crossbar.
