When Gareth Bale reflected on the toughest defenders he faced in his career, the answer might surprise many fans. The former Tottenham and Real Madrid star recently named Micah Richards as the most difficult opponent he ever came up against during his playing days, a notable admission considering the number of elite defenders Bale faced across the Premier League, LaLiga and the Champions League.

Bale made the revelation without hesitation when asked about the best defender he had played against, simply replying, “Micah Richards.” The former Manchester City right back was known for his explosive pace and physical strength during his peak years, qualities that made him a formidable opponent for even the quickest attackers. Richards enjoyed a successful spell with City, winning two Premier League titles along with an FA Cup and a League Cup before injuries eventually forced him to retire in 2019 at the age of 31.
