Manchester United succumbed to their first defeat under Michael Carrick on Wednesday, with Newcastle getting the better of them 2-1 at St. James’ Park.

What was most humiliating about the loss was that it came against 10 men, with the hosts playing for more than one half with a man down.

Yet the Magpies looked far more dangerous in the second half, and rightly claimed all three points.

Quite a few stars let the team down, and it was a hammer blow for Carrick in his aspirations to earn the permanent post at the end of the season.

Despite their wins, United’s recent displays have been far from praiseworthy, and according to Ben Jacobs, INEOS seem to have taken immediate cognisance of the issue.

As relayed by F365, the caretaker head coach is no longer among the frontrunners for the permanent post, with three new candidates emerging.

Interestingly, Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti have also been ruled out of the running.
