Chelsea Transfer News: Newcastle United want Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders for the summer transfer window. French outlet Jeunes Footeux reports that the Magpies have already made contact. They want to lay the groundwork for a potential deal now. The 20-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer. This move happened a full year after Chelsea agreed to a deal with KRC Genk in August 2024.

Chelsea paid around €20 million for him. At the time, that fee made him the most expensive Belgian goalkeeper in history. Chelsea did not put him in the senior squad immediately. Instead, they sent Penders to RC Strasbourg on a season-long loan. He has kept nine clean sheets and conceded 39 goals across 33 games there.

Newcastle’s interest comes from a major need for a new keeper. Nick Pope and Mark Gillespie both have contracts ending in June 2026. Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsdale is only at St James’ Park on a short-term loan from Southampton. Eddie Howe’s recruitment team reportedly reached out to discuss a move. However, Jeunes Footeux did not say if they called Chelsea or Penders’ agents.
