Manchester United have received a lift even before they take to the pitch against Everton on Monday evening. Top four contenders Chelsea surrendered a late equaliser against Burnley on Saturday, meaning United can establish a three-point advantage over the London outfit should they triumph at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It might not prove quite so simple, however. Everton prevailed at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture despite playing over half the match with 10 men following Idrissa Gana Gueye's dismissal. Circumstances were vastly different for the Red Devils back then, though, particularly in the technical area. Michael Carrick has since replaced Ruben Amorim, and the interim boss remains undefeated so far as he pursues Champions League qualification.

Should he manage to clinch a top-four position, it could prove crucial for United's summer transfer strategy. That's where our attention turns as the Daily Star Sport deliver the latest news from the red half of Manchester.
