Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has suggested that ex‑Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez would complement Mikel Arteta's attack and has urged the club to sign the Argentine. Alvarez has enjoyed his spell at Atletico Madrid, but speculation about his future has been growing ahead of the summer.

The 26‑year‑old has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with both Arsenal and Chelsea credited with an interest. In Spain, Barcelona are also tracking the striker, who could reportedly cost more than €100million (£86m).

However, the Gunners may hold an advantage in any negotiations, as their sporting director, Andrea Berta, was the one who oversaw Alvarez's move from City to the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer of 2024.

Petit believes Arsenal should prioritise signing Alvarez this summer, insisting the 25‑year‑old has the attributes to thrive under Mikel Arteta.
