Manchester United youngster James Scanlon has been lauded by Swindon Town boss Ian Holloway after he bagged his first goal for the loan club.

Having joined Swindon on loan during the winter window from United, Scanlon scored his first goal for the side on Saturday as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Oldham.

Scanlon fired home from a tight angle in the 23rd minute after meeting Aaron Drinan’s delivery.

The United starlet made his debut for Swindon in midweek as they earned a victory against Harrogate. Holloway rewarded him with a first start over the weekend and he certainly paid the manager’s faith in kind by getting on the score sheet.

The strike also marked Scanlon’s first one for a professional club. The result left Swindon in third place in League Two, seven points adrift of league leaders Bromley.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Holloway heaped praise on Scanlon and his ability.
