Sam Dalby scored twice and assisted for John McAtee as Bolton survived a second-half scare to beat Barnsley 3-2 and maintain their Sky Bet League One promotion push.

Dalby became Wanderers' top scorer this season, netting after five and 19 minutes from Kyle Dempsey corners to take his tally to nine.

The former Wrexham striker then set up Barnsley old boy McAtee who made it 3-0 after 32 minutes.

Bolton's best half of the season contained 16 shots with keeper Owen Goodman denying Corey Blackett-Taylor and Eoin Toal further goals.

But four interval substitutions transformed the game in the second half as the visitors came within a late Jack Bonham save of securing an unlikely point.

Ex-Trotter Luca Connell reduced the arrears with a deflected 57th-minute shot from 20 yards.

The comeback gained further momentum when substitute Adam Phillips thumped in Barnsley's second three minutes later.

However, Bonham ensured Steven Schumacher's first four-game winning streak as Bolton boss, denying former Wanderer Nat Ogbeta after 77 minutes.
