Man United legend Peter Schmeichel has challenged the Red Devils to do what Tottenham Hotspur managed to do in the transfer market two and a half years ago.

Tottenham’s transfer acquisitions have been a bit hit and miss since Johan Lange took charge a couple of years ago.

While some have not quite hit the expected heights, the Lilywhites have also pulled off some sensational deals, the most impressive of which was the signing of Micky van de Ven.

The North Londoners signed the Dutchman for just £43m, and the centre-back is now worth much more, having evolved into one of the best defenders in Europe.

The 24-year-old is now the envy of not just the Premier League but also all the big clubs in Europe, with his electric pace making him an extremely rare commodity among centre-backs.
