Everton have signed Tyrique George from Chelsea on loan.

The deal was confirmed late on transfer deadline day after a quiet month burst into life in the closing hours of the window.

The 19-year-old will now bolster David Moyes’ attacking options, crucially giving him another option on the left wing after the club was rocked by the loss of Jack Grealish to a serious foot injury midway through the month. The deal does give Everton the option to sign George on a permanent basis in the summer.

The pursuit of George gathered pace in the final days of the window after it became clear the stress fracture to his foot would leave Manchester City loanee Grealish out of action for a substantial period of time - potentially the whole of the second half of the season.

Everton had explored alternative options, including Fulham’s Harry Wilson, who is out-of-contract in the summer, but ultimately decided to seek a deal for an England youth international who has been at Stamford Bridge since joining Chelsea at Under-8s.
