JAVI Garcia has resigned from his post as Watford head coach a week before their trip to face Saints on Saturday, February 7.

The Spaniard stepped down from the role on Sunday afternoon, having suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Swansea City a day before.

Watford, without a win in their last five games, are now on the search for their third manager of the season, having parted ways with Paulo Pezzolano earlier this season.

Charlie Daniels, Dan Gosling and Adrian Mariappa will take charge of Watford's Championship fixture against Hull City on Tuesday night.

A statement from the Hornets, who sit four points adrift of the play-offs, said: "The club is sad and disappointed to confirm the resignation of Javi Gracia as head coach.

"We retain the belief Javi was the right man to lead the club towards its push for promotion, but Javi felt he no longer had the motivation and was not the right man to continue coaching this exciting group of young players.

"We respect his decision and accept his wish to leave Vicarage Road with immediate effect."
