Recent reports from Jason Burt in the Telegraph suggest that Michael Carrick wants to bring Marcus Rashford back. This is a top priority for him if the board gives him the permanent job. This move follows the firing of Ruben Amorim earlier in January 2026.

That exit left the manager’s seat open for the former midfield general to take charge on an interim basis. Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona, so the Red Devils cannot officially bring him back until the summer transfer window. Carrick played with the forward for three seasons and clearly believes the academy graduate is still a massive part of the club’s future.
