With less than a week to go until the deadline, the Toffees could finally enter the transfer window.

Everton have needed a right-back for a number of years. Arguably, the club should’ve started looking for Seamus Coleman’s long-term successor when the Irishman suffered a double leg break in 2017.

Coleman’s countryman Jake O’Brien has covered at right-back for much of this season. However, there’s no doubt we’re a much more balanced side when he’s at centre-back.

James Garner has also featured, but again is not the long-term answer and is blossoming in Everton’s midfield.

After his own prolonged spell in the treatment room, Nathan Patterson has recently returned to the fold.

Indeed, while it’s been refreshing to see an actual right-back occupy the position, the Scot simply isn’t good enough.

Patterson has been linked with a move this month, and will likely want regular first-team football ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

The odds of his departure would no doubt shorten should the Toffees swoop for Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

The Blues are reportedly interested in the 22-year-old, as is one other unnamed Premier League and a number of clubs in Serie A.
