James Garner has told his Everton team-mates to step up and take responsibility as they prepare to enter a crucial part of the season. The Blues, after disappointing results against Brentford and Wolves, were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Sunderland at the weekend.

Garner, Thierno Barry and Beto all saw efforts saved by Robin Roefs, allowing Luke O'Nien, on his first start of the season, to smash home the decisive spot-kick. David Moyes, though, was without nine senior players for the game and was forced to turn to 19-year-old Adam Aznou as his side chased an equaliser in normal time.

The former Bayern Munich man made an instant impact off the bench on his debut, as he won his side a penalty when he was brought down by Trai Hume.
