A thrilling win on Wednesday night at St James’ Park but a very concerning incident involving Fabian Schar.
With the scores level at 2-2, an innocuous looking challenge involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended up leaving the Swiss defender in very evident agony.
Fabian Schar frantically signalling for help as soon as he went down, with medical staff racing across the pitch to assist him.
After lengthy treatment on the pitch, the Newcastle United defender stretchered off.
Jacob Ramsey coming on to replace him, with Lewis Miley moved to centre-back alongside Sven Botman, who had replaced Malick Thiaw at half-time.
Sky Sports now have an exclusive on Thursday night, revealing good and bad news on Fabian Schar.
Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports and he reports that their information is that Schar has NOT broken his ankle.
The reporter saying that tests have shown there is no break.
However, the bad news is that Downie reports that Fabian Schar will still be out for an “extended period, with the severity of the damage to ligaments still unknown.”
