Newcastle United have long thought they have a generational talent on their hands in Lewis Miley. After all, he was playing regular football at Champions League level at 17 and did not look out of place at all in the Magpies midfield.

Two seasons on and he is continuing to break new ground. Miley has been deployed as an emergency right-back in recent weeks following injuries to Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth.

So good were his performances in an unfamiliar role, he has started the last two games at right-back despite the return of Trippier and Livramento to the squad.

And Trippier was keen to recognise the fight he has on his hands to get back into the Newcastle team as he used his leadership group column in the matchday programme to heap praise on Miley.
