Liverpool continued their return to form with an impressive 1-0 Champions League victory at home to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening. Alexis Mac Allister scored the only goal shortly after the hour to ensure Trent Alexander-Arnold's first return since leaving for the Bernabeu in the summer ended in defeat.

The result means Arne Slot's side have now taken nine points from 12 at the halfway stage of the opening stage and are in the running to secure a top-eight place and direct qualification to the knockout rounds.
