Former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin did not have many fond memories from his short time at Anfield. The Reds believed they had pulled off a transfer coup when signing Sahin on loan from Real Madrid in 2012, but he lasted less than six months at the club.

Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, and Sahin has a unique experience of the two teams. After joining Los Blancos from Borussia Dortmund in 2011, Sahin made just 10 appearances during his sole injury-hit season in Madrid.

The Turkey international soon sought a summer move elsewhere, seeing Liverpool as an opportunity to revitalise his career. However, his fortunes did not improve much under Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

Sahin featured 12 times for the Reds, scoring three goals, but his deal was mutually terminated in January 2013. After rejoining former club Dortmund on loan, Sahin was brutally honest about what had gone wrong for him at Liverpool.
