Athletic Club are expected to bring around 3,000 fans to Newcastle this week for the clash in the Champions League.

That’s according to El Correo, who report than an ‘advance party’ from Athletic have already made the trip to the North East.

They state that Athletic fans are ‘starting to bring colour’ to the streets of Newcastle ahead of their Champions League clash tomorrow. Around 3,000 Spanish fans are expected to attend the game.

But the ‘enthusiastic members’ of the Piru Gainza supporters’ club from Basauri were among the first to arrive in England. They attend all of the Spanish side’s European games.

Despite their team’s current struggles, the turnout of supporters will once again be ‘spectacular’. They see the clash against Newcastle as a potential turning point for their team. Athletic are currently 11th in La Liga with four wins, two draws and five defeats to date.

They’ve also only won one of their three games in the Champions League. The other two were defeats to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.

They’re hoping for a positive result at St James Park tomorrow, and it seems their fans will be turning out in force...
