Arne Slot has saluted the “special” backing he received from the Anfield crowd as Liverpool arrested their Premier League slump. Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch scored in each half as the Reds ended a run of four successive top-flight losses with a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Having come under fire following the dismal midweek League Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in which he made 10 chances, Slot had his name chanted during the first half against Villa.

He was also given rousing backing towards the end of the game and after the final whistle when approaching the Kop for a traditional show of appreciation.
