Steven Gerrard was the prime candidate for the Rangers job before he pulled out of the race.

Gerrard is a fan favourite at Rangers after leading the Govan club to the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title.

However, talks broke down and Gerrard did not become the new Rangers boss, and the job instead went to Danny Rohl.

The 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh have caught a lot of flak for their failure to bring Gerrard back, but it may not have been their fault.

Gerrard had concerns over the Rangers job due to the timing, and he has now confirmed why he did not take the vacancy.

The ex-Liverpool star admitted he still has love for the Gers, and he will watch on from afar, but he felt like he was not ready to return.
