Former Brighton and Hove Albion technical director David Weir has been appointed as sporting director at Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg - marking another raid by Chelsea's ownership on the Seagulls.

The ex-defender becomes the latest member of staff to depart the AMEX Stadium for the Blues' stable, this time joining their sister club. Weir's spell away from the game proved brief following his departure from the South Coast outfit in early September after seven years of service.

The 55-year-old had occupied various positions at the club before progressing to the technical director position under Tony Bloom's ownership.

Nevertheless, he represents the latest prominent switch from Brighton to Chelsea's network. Whilst he will commence his duties at Strasbourg on November 1, he arrives at the club, which is entirely owned by the Blues' ownership group BlueCo.

Weir follows in the footsteps of Graham Potter in making the transition to BlueCo from Brighton, with the former West Ham United manager amongst the more notable exits to Stamford Bridge.
