Bayern Munich rushed through a new deal for Vincent Kompany this week because Manchester City may be interested at some point.

That’s according to Didi Hamann in his column for Sky Germany. He believes Manchester City may want their former captain back at some point.

Kompany signed a new deal at Bayern Munich this week. He’s extended until 2029, despite his previous deal running until 2027. The move has raised some eyebrows given the time left on it at this point.

Bayern, though, have seemingly decided to back their manager publicly after his successful time in charge so far. Kompany arrived last season in a surprise move from Burnley.

He’s since wrestled the Bundesliga title back from Bayer Leverkusen, as well as winning the DFL Supercup last season. They’re in first in the Bundesliga again this season and have won all three of their games in the Champions League so far.

Indeed, the German side are one of the most in-form sides in Europe, with Kompany earning credit for getting them back on track. And Hamann believes Bayern’s chiefs have moved to ensure they don’t lose Kompany to a potential move from Manchester...
