Eddie Howe has warned that Newcastle United must manage expectations with Yoane Wissa with the DR Congo international edging closer to a return.

Howe confirmed that Wissa could be in contention for next weekend's clash against West Ham at the London Stadium after a knee injury suffered back in September. The former Brentford star has not kicked a ball for the Magpies yet after his £55m move from the Bees.

And Howe feels that he will have to go through a pre-season reboot after suffering one setback already. Wissa was meant to be back for the clash against Brighton but was given another two weeks to recover.

Newcastle, understandably, have Alexander Isak's Liverpool situation in mind. The ex-United striker had no pre-season to talk about, having gone on strike, and has since struggled for form and fitness, culminating in a groin issue forcing him off at half-time in midweek.
