After months and months of late wage payments and failures to pay HMRC, Sheffield Wednesday are expected to be entered into administration.

Alex Crook and Alan Biggs shared on their respective X accounts that it’s expected the Owls will be put into administration “imminently”. Mike Keegan shared that the HMRC bill has forced Dejphon Chansiri’s hand to put the club into administration.

Whether this entering administration will be good for Sheffield Wednesday or not is yet to be known. Here’s what the fan can expect once the Owls go into administration.

There are several steps involved when a club enters administration:

Firstly, an administrator will be appointed by the court to take control of the club’s finances and day-to-day operations.

Their job is to stop the club from entering liquidation. They can do this by finding someone to take over the club or by paying the debts owed to creditors by selling assets (players, training ground, merchandise).

The club will automatically enter a period of protection, preventing creditors from taking legal action against the club.
