Liverpool have been dealt a blow to their hopes of signing Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace defender was heavily linked with a move to Anfield at the end of the summer transfer window, but the Reds couldn't get a deal over the line.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool had agreed to sign Guehi from the Eagles for £35m on deadline day. While Oliver Glasner and Steve Parish locked horns over the England international's future, he was undergoing a medical in London.

The Palace chairman eventually recognised that losing two key figures made little sense, having sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal a couple of weeks earlier, so he pulled the plug on the deal. Now, unless Guehi signs a new contract at Selhurst Park, he'll be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
