Txiki Begiristain has revealed that his toughest moment at Manchester City was actually a clash against Everton.

Sport cover comments from the former Manchester City sporting director today. They come from a new documentary involving him, Ferran Soriano and Pep Guardiola.

That’s looking back on Begiristain’s career after he left Manchester City this summer following a 13-year spell at the club. The trio had long worked together at Barcelona before that. Begiristain was sporting director at the Camp Nou for seven years from 2003 to 2010.

He then headed to the Etihad in 2012, laying the groundwork for Guardiola to arrive three years later in 2016.

Begiristain was a key figure of Manchester City’s growth, establishing the club as a European force that won 21 trophies, including seven Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time in charge.

The first manager of his reign was Roberto Mancini, before the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini in 2013. And, it was seemingly under the Chilean manager that Begiristain endured the most difficult moment of his Manchester City spell.
