Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has hit out at Sir Jim Ratcliffe, claiming the Manchester United co-owner made a major blunder with his recent public remarks.

Earlier this month, Ratcliffe publicly threw his weight behind under-fire United manager Ruben Amorim, vowing to give the Portuguese coach three years to turn things around at Old Trafford.

The 72-year-old admitted that Amorim has not had the best of seasons but is willing to give him “three years” to demonstrate that he is a great coach.

He also blamed the media for their knee-jerk reactions to the Old Trafford outfit.

However, Sky Sports pundit Carragher was not convinced, arguing that Ratcliffe’s comments may have done more harm than good.

He said: “I understand what he (Ratcliffe) is trying to do. He comes out to defend his manager, and he talks about three years. But he almost does not help him by saying that because nobody believes it.

“Nobody believes that Ruben Amorim will be the manager of Manchester United in three years.
