Antony has revealed just how close he was to joining Liverpool before his £82million move to Manchester United. The winger made the move to England in 2022 after an impressive spell with Ajax, winning two league titles with the Dutch side, plus an Olympic gold medal with his nation, Brazil.

Antony joined forces with former boss Erik ten Hag at United, insisting at the time that the Dutchman "brings out the best in me". However, following a £21.6m move to Real Betis in the summer, the 25 year old told ESPN Brazil that he had thoughts of choosing United's rivals Liverpool instead.

Antony said: "Before closing with United, I was very close to Liverpool. But the path was meant to be what it was."
