Tyler Morton has revealed how Liverpool blocked him from joining Bayer Leverkusen last summer, despite the midfielder holding talks with the Bundesliga outfit’s then manager Xabi Alonso. The 22-year-old called time on his Reds career this summer as he joined Lyon in a deal worth up to £15m.

However, he had options to leave Anfield the year before only to find his hopes of an exit blocked by incoming head coach Arne Slot.

Morton, who has shone since moving to Ligue 1, was ultimately limited to a bit-part role under the Dutchman in his final season on Merseyside. He made five appearances in all competitions, and was an unused substitute on a further 14 occasions, but failed to feature at all in the Premier League.
