Merseyside Police has released a statement ahead of this Sunday's Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield, where around 60,000 fans are expected to attend. The force said it has been working closely with both clubs for several months to ensure the event is safe and enjoyable for all supporters.

A range of policing tactics will be in place on matchday, including highly visible patrols and plain-clothed officers deployed in and around the stadium. The previous match at Anfield saw eight people arrested on suspicion of tragedy chanting.

Chief Inspector Geoff Stewart said: "As with any game, a comprehensive and appropriate policing operation has been put in place ahead of the match.

“We have liaised with both clubs, as well as Liverpool City Council and transport partners to achieve this.

“These plans take into account a range of factors including any previous incidents and fixtures between the clubs.
