Ahead of Thursday’s first UEFA Women’s Champions League away game of the season, find out more about Benfica.

It’s an 8pm kick-off at Estadio da Luz as we look for our first win in Europe this season.

A RAPID RISE

Benfica were only founded in 2017, making their array of achievements in the short time since then even more remarkable. They now play in the Campeonato Nacional Feminino, the highest level of women’s football in Portugal, after being promoted to it in 2018/19.

They’ve won five consecutive First Division titles, one Second Division title, two Portuguese cups, a record five League Cups and a joint record three Super Cups.

They became invincible when they won last season’s league title with 20 wins, two draws and 0 losses.

In 2018, they went on an unbelievable run, winning four matches in a row by scorelines of 28-0, 19-0, 10-0 and 28-0 again, scoring 85 goals in total.

In early 2019, they broke their own record with a 32-0 win over CP Pego, increasing their tally in all competitions to 293 goals scored and none conceded in 16 matches.
